Northern Michigan University will have a new president when students return in the fall. The college's board of trustees voted unanimously to appoint Fritz Erickson to the position at their last meeting of the year. The appointment will take effect July 1.
Erickson isn't new to the U.P., having been a professor and department chair at Michigan Technological University earlier in his career. Most recently, he comes to NMU from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, where he was provost and VP for academic affairs.
Erickson's other past experience includes being dean of the College of Professional and Graduate Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Green bay, and dean and professor of education and human development at Eastern Washington University.
He replaces interim president David Haynes, who held down the role after previous NMU president Les Wong left the school for a new position in California.
