NECI's product approved for laboratory use

It looks like the U.S. Geological Survey will be getting a lot more familiar with a local company thanks to its enzyme-based technology.

The Nitrate Elimination Company, Inc., known more commonly as NECi and located in Lake Linden, recently announced that it's enzyme-based method for nitrate measurement has earned "standard method" designation from the USDS, meaning that the method, and other NECi products, will be used at USGS labs throughout the country. Those labs are tasked with monitoring water quality in lakes, rivers, wells and coastal areas.

"NECi’s products for the USGS methods are specific for the automated equipment used in big labs performing dozens or hundreds of nitrate tests per day," the company states in a press release. "NECi has packaged the same reagents in test kits for smaller labs and researchers who require quality data. Simplified kits based on these reagents are also available. These are designed for people who need dependable information on nitrate levels but don’t have lab facilities or skills."

NECi’s products replace the old standard method, which requires the use of the toxic heavy metal cadmium.
