If there's one thing that folks around here like to do, it's get a little dirty while having a lot of fun.
That's why the Suicide Hill Mud Plunge was so popular last year in its inaugural showing and promises to be an even bigger event this year.
In 2011, the Mud Plunge pulled in a final count of 741 participants and boasted well over 1,000 spectators. The Great Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce is hoping for a bigger, muddier and more exciting race this year--which is why they are seeking out sponsors for the Aug. 25 event, which is held at the Suicide Ski Bowl.
"A portion of the money raised from the event will go to the Ishpeming Ski Club for recreational development at Suicide Hill," says GINCC director Elizabeth Peterson. "Last year we were able to donate $2,000 to the club, which was used for signage at the trails, making it easier for those looking to hike, ski and bike the great trails at the ski bowl."
For those who aren't in the know, the event is a 5K adventure run complete with mud pits and obstacle courses. Participants have the choice of running as an individual or as a team of four. This year there will be a competitive race and a non-competitive fun run.
"Being a community event, we know we can't do this alone," says Peterson. "We're looking for sponsorships that will allow for a second successful event. We have created a number of different ways for our members to get involved."
The sponsorship levels range from $100 to $2,500 and one that involves building an obstacle for the participants to have to conquer. Sponsorship packages can be
