Welcoming back
Lake Superior State University students to Sault Ste. Marie can mean good things for local businesses, nonprofits and community groups.
To help out with connecting LSSU students and the
Sault Ste. Marie community, Lakerpalooza, the annual information and resource fair hosted by the university is coming up Aug. 26.
It's actually just a part of the whole "Laker Week" that lists day after day of events designed to get new students acquainted with the twin Saults and businesses in touch with them.
"Lakerpalooza is especially designed to welcome new students to the community and it can help non-profit and service organizations find students who are interested in volunteering," says Karen Johnston of LSSU's Advising, Retention and Orientation office. "This generation wants to make a difference in the communities in which they live. In addition, the event helps to heighten students' awareness of services and products available to them in the community."
Among the groups welcoming students will be businesses, churches, clubs, academic departments and schools, and many other groups and organizations.
"We can help businesses promote their products and services to the entire LSSU community," Johnston says. "Area churches may provide information about themselves as students settle into their home away from home."
Registration for businesses and other groups is available
online and ends Aug. 19.
