Lake Superior State University employees have been chosen as employees of the year, announced during the end of year banquet that honored retirement and service awards.
The award honors non-faculty employees who excel in their positions and has been presented annually since 1990.
Laura Bofinger and Georgiana Cox both were honored with the award. Bofinger is the secretary for LSSU's School of Nursing and was described by nominators as the glue that holds the department together.
"She provides so much support to the department that we are all able to be more successful," read one nomination. "I can give countless examples of how Laura is an integral member of our team. She is certainly the heart of the department!"
Bofinger began working at LSSU while still a student there, as a student employee in the financial aid office in 2000. She graduated in 2006 and was hired full time in the School of Nursing in 2007. She also is part of the LSSU University Service Committee.
"I am honored to receive this recognition," Bofinger says. "I really appreciate the confidence of those who nominated me."
Georgiana Cox is a staff accountant for the LSSU Business Office, and graduated from LSSU in 1979, having worked for the university ever since. Along the way, she's earned a MBA in 1988, and continually sought ongoing training and education through university and professional courses and certifications.
"She is a very conscientious worker," one of her colleagues wrote in a nomination. "If you could follow in her footsteps for a few days, you would realize how many people count on her for assistance and information."
Cox also was nominated for employee of the year awards in 1996, 1998 and 2001. She is a member of the Lock Cities Chorus of Sweet Adelines International and is active in costuming for local theater productions.
