Houghton company receives award at White House

GS Engineering, a company based in Houghton, was recently one of 18 nationwide high-tech small businesses and three individuals who were invited to Washington, D.C. by the U.S. Small Business Administration to receive awards for the role they have played in research and development for the government, for creating new jobs and for driving innovation forward.

GS Engineering earned itself the Tibbetts Award for its work on the Advanced Lightweight Vehicle Components and Materials SBIR.  Since 2001, GS Engineering has been awarded 13 Phase I SBIR contracts by various governmental entities.

The Tibbetts Award was given to GS Engineering president Glen Simula, who says "I am very excited to have the work of GS Engineering recognized by the SBA as the strength of our organization is our employees."

The award, which was given out by the SBA's Karen Mills, was presented at the White House.

GS Engineering was the only company in the Midwest to be included in the award ceremony.
