The
Copper Harbor Trails Club is one of 12 finalists in a nationwide contest--and the prize is a chunk of $100,000, which is being awarded to three mountain biking trail projects.
How can it get that money? Through online voting, so the club is asking for help from Upper Peninsula biking supporters. The competition is for a Bell Built grant, funded by Bell Helmets and the International Mountain Biking Association. Voting for the contest is only open till April 12, and the general public is welcome to vote at
Bell's Facebook page.
The Bell Built program funds trail projects in three categories: downhill, flow trail and pumptrack. The Copper Harbor Trails Club is a finalist in the downhill category, with a project called Overflow, which will combine built and natural terrain to create an intermediate and expert level mountain biking trail.
"Overflow will add to the expanding gravity-assisted trail system in Copper Harbor and be another draw for riders from throughout the Midwest region," says club president Aaron Rogers.
Results of the voting will be announced April 19.
