Sara Cole is the new director of the
Delta County College Access Network. The network's goal is to lower barriers local students encounter to getting a college education. It serves Bak River-Harris, Escanaba, Gladstone and Nah Tah Wahsh area schools in Delta County.
Cole's responsibilities will include identifying financial resources to sustain the network, carrying out its action plans, and developing community partnerships, all with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of Delta County students who get a post-secondary education.
The DCCAN was given a planning grant in 2011 from the Michigan College Access Network, which works toward that goal all over the state, including some other networks in the U.P. The programs especially focus on reaching low-income, first-generation and Native American college students.
