Emergency first responders in Ely and Tilden townships have a new resource thanks to
Cliffs Natural Resources, which just donated four automatic external defibrillators to the Ely Township First Responders.
The twelve-person team had only eight AEDS, so not every first responder that went out on a call had one--a situation that's now changed.
"Cliffs recently upgraded their AEDs and felt it was important to donate the units being replaced to a local first responders group that was in need of them," says Kurt Ball, Cliffs Michigan operations EMS committee chairman. "This is an asset to the community and will provide a much needed life saving tool for this first responder group."
Each AED is worth about $2,000, and is an important lifesaving tool when responding to cardiac arrest emergencies, since use of an AED on scene improves survival rates drastically.
Ely Township First Responders cover about 237 square miles of area, including Ely and Tilden townships in western Marquette County, near Cliffs' Michigan operations.
