When Jesse Scramm, the sole owner of
Checker Transportation, first started business in Marquette County, he had no idea that he would eventually make the jump from three employees to 39 in just a matter of a few years.
Schramm, who owns both Checker Cab and Checker Bus, has seen massive growth in just the past year. At the start of 2011, he had 16 employees working for him. By the start of 2012, that number had climbed to 33. Already this year, he's hired six additional drivers.
"We are a one-stop transportation source," says Schramm. "If people need any group size moved any distance, we can do it."
From sedans to mini-vans to full-size fans, limos and buses, Schramm already has an impressive fleet with Checker Transport. This year he's planning on adding a limo-coach and a 56-passenger coach service starting this fall.
"We specialize lately with athletic teams, including the Marquette Electricians Hockey," says Schramm, adding that any school group, wedding party or individual groups can easily be accommodated. They even helped ferry around Kid Rock when he was in the area. "We can do anything."
Checker Transportation are huge advocates of the no drinking and driving laws and are always willing to come pick up people or be an arranged service for those looking to party without having to worry about who is going to drive them home.
