Bell Hospital in Ishpeming announced it will be opening a new operating room to better serve its surgical patients.
The hospital applied through the Michigan Department of Community Health for approval to equip, staff and operate a fourth operating room in the hospital's surgical center.
The move was prompted by an increase in patients and surgical procedures being performed at Bell, and the new OR will make things more efficient, says Bell's chief operating officer, Barbara Larson.
"Our surgical volumes have been increasing, due in large part to the talented and caring providers and staff serving our surgical patients. The approval from the State paves the way to offer more convenient scheduling and enhanced access to those services," says Larson.
The equipment needed will be funded by the Bell Auxiliary and the Bell Foundation.
