In all the hustle and bustle of the holidays and the new energy in the New Year, you may have missed these new businesses this winter. It's always entrepreneurship time in the Upper Peninsula, though, and new additions to our business community keep rolling in regardless of the season.
The Guy's Place
Up in Houghton, a successful idea is expanding, with a new men's hair salon, The Guy's Place, now open for customers across the Keweenaw.
There is already one located in Marquette that has been doing well for a couple of years, and it was time to take the concept -- one that's growing across the country -- to another U.P. town.
FITWORX
Owner Tom Stone has opened his FITWORX fitness training business in downtown Marquette. Located at 317 South Front Street, the Marquette DDA held an opening celebration this winter for the studio.
Stone says FITWORX specializes in quality personal, partner and small group fitness training, and focuses on safe and effective workouts based in exercise science.
Leisa Mansfield State Farm Insurance
In the eastern U.P., the Sault Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed new State Farm Insurance owner Leisa Mansfield to the area with a ribbon cutting and business after-hours event.
Mansfield's office is located in downtown Sault Ste. Marie at 2660 Ashmun Street.
Monat By Jackie
Jackie Etelamaki announced the start of her new business, Monat By Jackie, with a ribbon cutting hosted by the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Area Chamber of Commerce in December.
It's a home-based business and Etelamaki describes herself as an independent market partner for Monat. Monat is an anti-aging hair care company that offers naturally-based products made in the US, and clients may order online.
