U.P. blogs you should be reading

We've rounded up a selection of blogs to read in 2015, all from Upper Peninsula bloggers, and all worthy additions to your reading list.
When it's as cold as it has been lately, staying inside is the thing to do -- so we've rounded up a list of Upper Peninsula blogs you should be reading this winter. Whether it's keeping up with local news or finding the next recipe you want to make, U.P. bloggers have you covered.

Word on the Street by Brian Cabell
http://briancabell.com/

Not a week goes by on Facebook during which Brian Cabell's Word on the Street posts don't make the newsfeed rounds. The local longtime reporter has an ear for the latest news and always seems to know what's going on in Marquette. His style is short and direct with a healthy dose of opinion formed from his observations on the town over the past few decades. Recently, Cabell revamped his website to make social media interaction even easier, and established an email list for those who want to make sure not to miss a post -- probably quite a few folks.

Rebecca's Amazing Creations
http://rebeccasamazingcreations.blogspot.com/

This local foodie blog, which just passed 50,000 views in December, focuses on homemade recipes, and the adventurous cook & blogger behind it, Rebecca Bond, doesn't limit herself to any one category. You'll find desserts, drinks, salads, entrees, dips, breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes here, often with a focus on practicality, and always with a try-anything attitude.

Wintergreen Farm
http://wintergreen-farm.blogspot.com/

The Wintergreen Farm blog chronicles both life on a Keweenaw organic farm and sustainable cooking adventures from farmer, chef and blogger Andrea Corpolongo Smith. Sometimes, you'll find a treatise on homegrown ingredients or new ways to use that surplus of beets from your garden, but sometimes, Smith blogs updates on the farm's CSA bounty, or photos of family life on a U.P. organic farm. The one constant is quality, sustainable, creative recipes for your home kitchen, which Smith creates in every blog post.

Things to Do in the U.P.
http://www.thingstodointheup.com/

There must be about a million travel blogs out there (this writer is even guilty of a half-attempted one) -- but Things to Do in the U.P. has the exploration of Michigan's Upper Peninsula down pat. Posting photos, reviews, and hidden corners all over the region is the lifeblood of the blog, started by Jesse Land. Land now welcomes other contributors to the blog, too, but the ethos of helping both visitors and residents of the U.P. find the beauty all around them remains the same.

The Yooper Girl
http://theyoopergirl.com/

Fitness, fashion, food and lifestyle are the key topics this lively, positive blog covers, all through the lens of 16-year-old Leigha, an Upper Peninsula blogger from the Escanaba area. She brings a youthful take on healthy living to her posts, and her growing following is well-earned with thoughtfully chosen recipes and tips, along with artful photography.

And, here are another five U.P. blogs that earned Honorable Mention, and are well worth checking out.
