Bay de Noc Community College announced it has opened a welding skill training facility associated with its West Campus in Iron Mountain.
The Welding Center will offer a Bay College welding certificate and be located at the Dickinson-Iron ISD Tech Center in Kingsford. It's funded through a $400,000 federal grant that is paying for welding equipment, instruction and space for the center.
The certificate is a one-year program and on completion, qualifies students to work in welding occupations included construction, shipbuilding, pipefitting and industrial and production welding. It's a highly in-demand skilled job currently, and the center will work to meet employment needs from manufacturers in the Dickinson County area and throughout the U.P.
