Iron Mountain gets new music studio and store; teacher has 18 years experience

A new music studio and store, called VoiceWorks, is open in Iron Mountain. Musician and teacher Gail Vornkahl has expanded her formerly private practice serving voice students into a storefront at 217 E. Ludington Street.

Vornkahl is the store's owner, as well as the vocal coach for the studio. She plans to continue serving local musicians with voice lessons and coaching, but also by providing music products like sheet music, books, supplies and gifts. Local teachers can benefit from educational discounts at VoiceWorks as well.

Students in the Iron Mountain public school system are already familiar with Vornkahl, as she is in her 13th year teaching music, choir and band to students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. She also is the assistant conductor to the Dickinson County Community Chorus. She has a bachelor's degree in music education from Northern Michigan University, and is working on obtaining her master of arts degree in music education at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. She's been teaching music for 18 years.

VoiceWorks will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. on school days, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, with expanded hours in the summer. Private lessons, vocal coaching and group lessons for ages 12 through adult are available by calling Vornkahl at 906-779-0446.
