What's happening: The Vault Hotel in Houghton has once again been recognized as a Conde Nast Traveler Reader's Choice Award winner. The boutique hotel in downtown Houghton was ranked 14 in Best Hotels in the Midwest and one of three in Michigan. The others were in Detroit and Grand Rapids.

About Reader's Choice Award: More than 575,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers across the United States submitted responses rating their travel experiences across the globe to offer a comprehensive look at the places they eagerly anticipate revisiting. As the travel industry's longest running and most prestigious accolades, the Readers' Choice Awards remain the ultimate symbol and acknowledgment of excellence within the travel sector.

About the hotel: The 17-room Vault opened in 2019, after 11 months of renovation, a complete gutting and remodel of the former Houghton National Bank. The Romanesque-style structure was built in 1889. In the building’s transformation into a hotel, many original bank elements were reused, including teller windows, bank boxes, and even a vault. This year marks the second consecutive year The Vault Hotel has been recognized by the Conde Nast Traveler Reader's Choice Awards.

What they're saying: “We’re very honored that the experience we offer in our small, UP boutique hotel is validated by one of the most reputable travel publishers in the world. We thank all of those who gave us their vote of confidence and are excited for what the future holds for The Vault Hotel brand. The Upper Peninsula is a beautiful place and we’re proud to be here in the center of Downtown Houghton," says Jen Julien, owner.
