U-Haul buys five U.P. stores

Five moving and self-storage locations in the Keweenaw Peninsula have just been bought by a regional U-Haul company.

U-Haul Company of Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula announced it has added the five locations in Hancock, Lake Linden, Calumet, Dodgeville and Houghton.

All five were formerly owned by Kevin and Judy Moyle as Kevin's Self Storage, which was based in a main Houghton location and had expanded out to the other locations. The U-Haul Moving and Self Storage in Houghton, the former headquarters, will serve as an administrative base for the other four locations.

"Each of the five areas we now operate in Copper Country are tight-knit communities with a hometown feel," says Justin Kaminski, marketing president of U-Haul Company of Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. "U-Haul will continue to offer that small town, family oriented service. We have received a warm welcome in these communities due to our providing expanded services that you don't typically find in a small town. These acquisitions are proof that larger companies, such as U-Haul, can operate in smaller towns, if they remember that we are able to be here because of our customers and community support."

Additions to the locations include security cameras, full lines of U-Haul moving supplies, trucks trailers, and U-Box moving and self-storage containers.
