SGT's Recycling Inc. opens up shop in Esky

Recycling center Sergeant's, or SGT's Recycling, has reopened in Escanaba. The center is at 1600 N. 30th Street and offers full-service recycling, including electronics, scrap and household items.

The recycling center closed for a few months in order to renovate its location and rework its staff, online presence and services.

"We are glad to be back and ready to serve Delta County and the surrounding region. Our quick absence helped us revamp this location and our services," says Steve Hawn, SGT'S new CEO.

A new website and blog and social media presence goes along with the new face of SGT's, and Hawn says he hopes the online efforts can help get the word out about recycling and clear up misconceptions.

If the military-inspired name didn't tip you off, Hawn notes that 82 percent of the center's employees are veterans, and the company makes an effort to hire veterans. Other objectives the company states include protecting watersheds and water supplies, easing the burden on landfills, and working in partnership with local leaders to implement new and creative reuse models.
