Keweenaw Specialty Woods adds sawmill, new jobs

Keweenaw Specialty Woods is building its business with the help of an equipment loan from the Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance.

The Mohawk-based, family-owned and operated company, received a revolving loan fund loan from KEDA in order to purchase a portable sawmill. The sawmill will increase jobs at the wood products company and allow it to fill orders more efficiently.

Among Keweenaw Specialty Woods' products are tongue-and-groove paneling, stock lumber, baseboards and casings, hardwood flooring, trim, stair parts, railings, and custom millwork from kilns, planers and shapers on-site. The sawmill will allow faster production and mean the addition of jobs in the future, according to KEDA.

The economic development alliance provides loans to businesses for equipment, investment and job creation, expansion and growth in the Keweenaw Peninsula.
