Challenging Red Bull 400 returns to Copper Peak

What's happening: Red Bull 400, the world's steepest 400-meter race, returns this spring to Copper Peak in the western U.P. for the first time since 2019. The race will be held on Saturday, May 10.

About the race: More than 800 athletes will take on the near-vertical challenge of the tallest artificial ski jump in the U.S., racing against gravity in a brutal test of speed, endurance, and strength. Throughout the day, heats will determine the men’s and women’s finalists, all competing for a podium finish and a shot at the Red Bull 400 world record. The Red Bull 400 has been held around the world, including Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Finland, Czech Republic, Canada, and Germany.

About Copper Peak: The 26-story tower was built in 1969 as a ski jumping hill and held its first ski flying event the following year. Ski jumping events were held through 1994 when the facility closed because of massive debt and other issues. The structure has been maintained and upgraded over the years, supported by revenue from tourism. Copper Peak is open to tourists from Memorial Day through the end of October. About 12,000 people visit each year.

For spectators: Spectators will get an immersive race-day experience with high-energy competition, athlete fueling stations, and warm-up and cool-down zones., according to event promotors. Gates will open at 6:30 a.m. and the first heat begins at 8:00 a.m.
