Endres Machining Innovations--also known as EMI--of Houghton will be launching its first product line thanks to a $36,000 grant obtained from the Business Accelerator Fund by the MTEC SmartZone.
The grant, which is administered by the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center, is used to help provide assistance to early-stage technology companies that have a high potential for job creation.
EMI developed a rotary-tool system used for machining automotive powertrain components. EMI developed the system with partner Rotary Technologies Corp., which has facilities in California and downstate Wixom.
"I set out to develop game-changing, hard technologies that allow machines and the people running them to cut faster and with tools that last much longer," says EMI President Bill Endres. "Our rotary tool system allows higher cutting speeds by reducing the thermal load on the cutting edge. The result is significantly higher material removal rates."
EMI will install new equipment and provide employee training with the funding from the grant.
