Oldenburg Group breaks ground on $5 million facility in Kingsford

Expansion and new jobs are on the horizon in Kingsford thanks to an investment by Oldenburg Group.

The company broke ground with U.S. Sen. Carl Levin and Gov. Jennifer Granholm last Thursday on a $5 million facility that will be used for engineering, project management, purchasing and accounting.

The new facility will replace the current Oldenburg engineering headquarters.

Wayne Oldenburg, president of the company, said he thought it was of utmost importance to keep the facility in Kingsford.

"People were afraid that we would move the headquarters to Milwaukee, but we didn't," he says. "We bring our businesses to where people want to live."

The project received grants from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. and the federal Community Development Block Grant program.

Oldenburg Group Inc. is a Milwaukee-based supplier of performance-engineered products used in the defense, mining, energy, and architectural lighting industries worldwide.

The new facility is slated to open in the spring of 2011.

The company says the expansion is creating 100 new jobs in the Oldenburg facilities in Rhinelander, Iron River and Kingsford.
