NewPage launches new high-performance label paper

It can't be said that NewPage Corporation is letting recent economic troubles get them down. Sticking with the philosophy that you have to innovate to succeed, the paper company announced this month it is launching a new product, to be manufactured here in the U.P.

The OptiLabel HB facestock paper is described as a 54-pound, high-performance general purpose label paper, to be sold both in North American and internationally.

David Diekelman, executive director of sales and business development for NewPage's specialty papers, said the company's product development team wanted to create a new label paper that consistently maintains a premium appearance and performance throughout production. OptiLabel HB is designed to perform well for pressure-sensitive laminating, label printing, die cutting and high-speed label applications.

"Our experience in this market provides up with an in-depth understanding of the needs throughout the entire supply chain," he says, adding that customers want label papers that stand up to top-notch graphics printing and comes from North American sources like NewPage.

The new paper will be manufactured on one of three paper machines at the company's Escanaba pulp and paper facility, which was recently converted to create these kinds of label papers.
