What's happening: Michigan Technological University's annual Winter Carnival kicks off today, February 5, and runs through Saturday, February 8. Now in its second century, the event is renowned for its snow statues and other traditional activities. A laser show befitting this year's medieval theme, "Dragons, Knights, and Legendary Sights," is among the spectacles on tap.
History: The carnival has been organized by
Blue Key National Honor Society since 1934. The carnival began in 1922 and has grown into one of the biggest annual winter celebrations in the nation. The carnival brings Huskies together to compete in broomball, comedy skits, human ice bowling, and a royalty coronation.
About the laser show: The laser show will be projected onto the exterior of the Walker Arts and Humanities Center, located near the Michigan Tech
broomball rinks. It will take place directly after the Alumni All Stars Broomball Game on Wednesday, Feb. 5., with a tentative 11:15 p.m. start time.
Schedule information: Go to Winter Carnival 2025.
Statue winners: The winners will be announced late Thursday afternoon. Updates will be available on MTU News and on the Winter Carnival
website.
