After a year of construction, finishing, and plenty of community support, the new
Hospice of the Eastern Upper Peninsula is opening its doors to the public July 19.
The new hospice will have an open house from noon to 4:30 p.m., followed by a grand opening ceremony to include a color guard, national anthem, guest presentations and a ribbon cutting.
The hospice is located at 308 West 12th Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie, where a new, 7,700-square-foot facility has been developing for the last several months.
Hospice services are provided jointly in Chippewa and Mackinac counties by Hospice of the EUP and EUP Home Health and Hospice, which is a service of the Chippewa County Health Department.
Community fundraising and donation efforts played a large part in the construction, done by McGahey Construction at a cost of about $900,000 total.
It was built in response to
a community need for more hospice care, and will be home to several hospice patients, providing an at-home type environment and highly qualified end-of-life medical care in one building.
