Scott Martin wanted to find a way to expand his offerings at his apparel company, but didn't want to branch out to schools and teams outside of the Upper Peninsula. So, he decided he should focus his newest brand on the Upper Peninsula itself. And, thus,
Great Lakes Clothing Company was born.
The company, which is housed in the same building as Martin Sports Apparel and PC Medic on U.S. 41 near Meyer Yamaha and across from Snyder Drug in Ishpeming, specializes in Upper-Peninsula-themed shirts and hats.
So far, there are about a dozen different designs, including new U.S.-41 and M-28 designs that have been proving popular for the holidays. Additionally, there's a "Got Snow?" shirt that reminds everyone that the U.P. doesn't shy away from the white stuff each lasting winter.
"Great Lakes Clothing Company is going to expand with more designs and more varieties throughout 2014," says Martin. "I love creating new designs, and this just gives me a chance to expand beyond local businesses and athletic teams."
An online store is coming soon, says Martin, and until then, you can order via phone or by messaging the company on its Facebook page.
