The restaurant offerings in St. Ignace, like most places in the U.P., are pretty varied and tasty already. But a new restaurant open there this summer brings something a little different to the area.
The Garden focuses on healthy foods, offering a variety of soups, salad, sandwiches and other items that are easily made to suit dietary restrictions or food intolerances. The menu includes vegan, lactose-free and gluten-free dishes.
It's owned by Joe and Sandy Durm, who also own Mexican restaurant
Jose's Cantina and café
Java Joe's. Both the existing restaurants offer some menu items for customers seeking healthy options, but The Garden is entirely focused on the concept.
It is located at 811 N. State Street in St. Ignace, the former home of Mo Joe's House of Hotdogs, also owned by the Durms. In fact, the popular Chicago-style hot dogs from Mo Joe's remain on the menu at The Garden, although vegan customers may wish to avoid that particular dish--the new restaurant really does have something for everyone.
The doors were officially open as of June 25, in time for the St. Ignace Car Show, so if you're traveling through St. Ignace this summer or live in the area, stop and check out the new options.
