Enstrom expanding and adding jobs

Enstrom Helicopter has been abuzz with some recent news, and it's completely understandable why. The company will be adding 70,000 square feet to its current facility and over the next three years will add between 150 and 200 new employees over the next two years or so.

The company's expansion will come with a price tag of approximately $8 million and the construction will be headed up by Moyle Construction out of Houghton.

The company, which was purchased last year by Chongquing Helicopter Investment Co. of China, currently employs 165 people--100 of them having been added in the past year and a half.

Enstrom typically builds between 20 to 30 helicopters per year, but with the expansion it will be looking to grow its production to approximately 100 helicopters per year--including a complete new design the company has yet to reveal.

Additionally, Enstrom is converting a building across the street from it's location to a living space to house six Chinese pilots at a time. These pilots will be receiving training on Enstrom Helicopters operation.

For the remainder of this year, Enstrom had contracts for 32 helicopters and 45 contracted for next year.
