Bear Belly Bar and Grill reopens

If there is no other reason for you to want to drive to Lac la Belle, you may want to at least consider the trip to visit the Bear Belly Bar & Grill, which reopened its doors just prior to the New Year.

The location, which is set right in the beautiful Keweenaw, offers a full-service bar and restaurant. Included on the menu are homemade soups, hearty chili and a nice variety of entrees.

But the item off the menu that is most regularly requested? The Reuben.

"We have a couple that comes in from Marquette (just under three hours away) and tells us we have the best Reuben in the U.P.," owner Cathy Westcott says.

Those with a bigger appetite may want to consider something a bit more substantial, like the 10-ounce charbroiled Bruno Burger. The name isn't just for its size, either. It was named for a black bear that was known to hang around the lodge where Bear Belly is now located.

Those looking to enjoy the bar will be able to satisfy their thirst with a full selection of Keweenaw Brewing Company beers.

The bar and grill will likely be a big hit in all seasons. In the summer, folks will flock to the tranquility of Lac la Belle while experiencing the Upper Peninsula. In the winter, the lodge and restaurant are located right on snowmobile trail 132 and is less than a half mile away from Mount Bohemia Ski Resort.
