The shipwrights at Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin are busy as ever, especially with the announcement of a new contract with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Marinette Marine Corporation has been awarded as the prime contractor to build 11 more medium response boats (RB-Ms) for the Coast Guard. The boats are not the first of their kind the company has built, but the contract secures income for the company for several years. The total contract is for 126 boats, with the aforementioned 11 to be delivered to the Coast Guard in early 2013.
"Marinette Marine is proud to receive an additional 11 RB-Ms to be built for the U.S. Coast Guard," says Chuck Goddard, President and CEO of Marinette Marine. "It is a testament to our workforce and the high efficiency of ACE Marine’s purpose designed manufacturing facility that allows us to deliver on schedule and on budget."
The value of the new contract is about $23.9 million. The terms of the total, multi-year contract, allow up to 150 boats and up to $600 million.
However, about half the boats will be built locally, at Marinette Marine’s Green Bay facility, ACE Marine. The other half will be built in Kent, Washington, by the company’s partner, Kvichak Marine Industries.
