Down on the farm: China Township flower farm growing fresh blooms for your table

Blue Hills Flower Farm in China Township is not on the beaten path, so many miss out on the sights and smells of this private operation. Owner Angie Ebert is in heaven when she is out in her fields, tending to crops of the freshest bouquets you could ever find.

The happy farmer has been through an "extremely challenging year, though, due to the weather: late frost, hail damage, drought," and "when it rained, it poured," Ebert says.

"However, we have managed to pull through and provide flowers to Neiman's Family Market, local florists and to people that need a last minute arrangement or bouquet," she says. "I have gotten outstanding feedback from florists about the quality of our flowers, and I hope that others will catch on to our quality, too."

She is planning to offer her "bouquet subscription program" again next year, providing fresh cut flowers in bouquets in each season, and is also looking into farmers' markets as a way to share her flowers and connect with the public. To find out more about Blue Hills Farm, call (810) 580-1445.
