There’s a new women’s clothing boutique opening in St. Clair. We talked to co-owners Lorinda Kain and Ann Marie Oldford all about it.
Q: Are you open yet? If not, when?
A: Our store design and build-out is well underway and things are taking shape quickly now. Construction should be wrapped up by the end of March and merchandise arriving throughout the month of April, so we anticipate opening in the middle of May.
Q: If you were basking in the sun on a warm tropical beach somewhere, how would you describe Tru Blue Boutique to someone you just met there?
A: Tru Blue is a collection of effortless pieces, refined and stylish, for women of all ages. We realize that is quite a wide market, but our goal is to select items that may be a bit understated yet have that special touch to freshen up any wardrobe. Our clothing brands come in quality fabrics with on-trend style, but not overdone and could therefore be in your closet for several years without looking outdated. Though women’s clothing is our main focus, Tru Blue will also have a gorgeous assortment of accessories, jewelry, and possibly small gifts.
Q: What is your guiding philosophy in running Tru Blue?
A: Our goal is to help every woman entering the boutique feel special and confident. We’ll strive to meet the unique needs of each individual and provide an exquisite merchandise assortment, affordable and within close reach.
Q: Is this your first time as an entrepreneur? How did you prepare to open your own business?
A: Yes, this is our first start at running a business. Early on, Ann Marie held a management position in a retail clothing store, as well, Lorinda worked at Hudson’s while studying Fashion Merchandising and Marketing. Both veered away from the industry after college, finding positions in the legal and education fields. Though we met just a few months ago, our discussions and plans have been non-stop. It was mostly a matter of perfect timing--both in our lives and our community. With luck, our past experience, education, and hard work will provide the know-how in making this boutique a success.
Q: What drew you to open in St. Clair?
A: We both live in the area. When Ann Marie heard that the St. Clair Inn was re-opening and that there was the availability of a retail space, a light bulb went off. After evaluating possible locations, we fell in love with our spot in the courtyard plaza. St. Clair is so full of activity, anticipation, and excitement right now! We are so pleased to be a part of it.
Q: What else would you like our readers to know about you?
A: Like everyone else, we have both been very busy with our careers and raising families. Taking this opportunity and turning it into something real is very exciting. It has been in the back of our minds for quite some time. Thankfully, our husbands, family and friends have all been very supportive, pitching in any way that they can. We feel very fortunate.
