What’s happening: Tickets for the tenth annual “FUNdraiser & Avant Garde Hair Show” are now on sale. The signature fundraising event from Port Huron-based nonprofit
A Beautiful Me is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Nov. 7, at Zuccaro’s Banquet Center in Chesterfield Township.
What it is: The FUNdraiser & Avant Garde Hair Show features “everyday women” walking the runway and modeling the creative, extravagant hair designs of Michigan hairstylists. Tickets also include dinner, dessert, and networking opportunities. A cash bar, raffle baskets, and auction are also planned.
Why it’s important: 100 percent of the proceeds from the annual event go to
A Beautiful Me and its programming. The nonprofit organization uses the funds raised to produce self-esteem workshops for young women in the Blue Water Area. As a result, those workshops are free to attend.

New this year: The teenagers and women walking the runway this year will share impact stories from working with the organization, including, according to the nonprofit, “a supporter at 88 years old that feels more confident through her experiences with A Beautiful Me.” Also new this year is an online auction, available to anyone beginning in late October and concluding at the end of the event.
Mystery and intrigue: Although details aren’t yet available, this will be the tenth and final Avant Garde Hair Show for the organization. A new signature fundraising event will debut next year.
What they’re saying: “How do you build confidence? Do something you’ve never done before. It’s wonderful to witness everyday women, of all ages, do something they’ve never done before and build their confidence. This fundraising experience correlates with our vision to foster self-worth in all women of all ages,” says Karen Palka, executive director of A Beautiful Me. “Our signature fundraiser is instrumental in the success of our mission — including our new program on Anti-Cyber Harassment Presentation for girls in 6th-12th grades.”
