Perrigo adds two new generics to lineup

The generic equivalents of Bayer's Aleve and Xyzal, tablets that treat both both allergies and hives, are now in Perrigo's product line.

The Allegan-based company announced this week the launch of Naproxen Sodium Soft Gels, the generic for the analgesic Aleve. Aleve Liquid Gels had sales of approximately $80 million and Perrigo says it believes it is the first to market a store brand version of this product.

The launch shows Perrigo's commitment to bring new products to market, says Perrigo's Chairman and CEO Joseph C. Papa.

Perrigo also is now selling Levocetirizine tablets, the generic version of Xyzal, marketed in the United States by Sanofi-Aventis.The tablets are taken for indoor and outdoor allergies.

Wolters Kluwer Health reports sales for Xyzal Tablets for the 12 month period ending in September were $224 million, a 12 percent increase over the previous 12 month period.

Perrgo's licensor and supplier Synthon recently received final approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Levocetirizine tablets. Perrigo has the exclusive rights from Synthon to sell and distribute the product in the United States.

Perrigo Company develops, manufactures and distributes over-the-counter and generic prescription pharmaceuticals. It also sells infant formulas, nutritional products, active pharmaceutical ingredients and medical diagnostic products.

The company is the world's largest store brand manufacturer of over-the-counter pharmaceutical products and infant formulas.
