During a rare weekend getaway, John and Nicole Tomaszewski visited the historic downtown arts district in downtown Saugatuck, staying at a nearby bed and breakfast.
Years later, the couple decided to open their own B&B and were thrilled to discover that very same Saugatuck property was for sale.
The result is
La Belle Amie--French for "The Good Friend," which opened in February, adding 12 guest rooms to Saugatuck and three jobs to its economy.
John and Nicole Tomaszewski handle maintenance and interior decorating, respectively, at their renovated bed and breakfast, while its innkeeper keeps guests comfortable and well fed.
Each suite has a private eating area and bathroom, DirectTV and complimentary WIFI.
Surrounded by ponds, meadows and gardens on five acres, the estate house grounds invite warm-weather hiking, biking, boating, picnicking and relaxing on a quiet deck. Winter guests enjoy cold-weather activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
The new inn continues to expand to add new features for its area and out-of-town visitors. The La Belle Amie Pool House, currently under construction, will be equipped with an in-ground swimming pool, a Jacuzzi and sauna, a fireplace and a bar and refreshment area. Spa services are on its horizon as well, and several outbuildings may be renovated into yet-undecided amenities in the future.
