The magic of mannequins draws a crowd in St. Joseph
Live mannequins recalling holiday tales attracted a lot of welcome stares from those strolling downtown St. Joseph recently. It was part of an evening full of cheer that brought out lots of people. Erik Holladay was there to capture the moment with this slide show.
More than 30 storefront and business windows featured live mannequins posing perfectly still in scenes depicting classic holiday stories and nostalgic holiday memories in downtown St. Joseph on Dec. 7.
Most of the live mannequins were volunteers from the community recruited for the special event. The streets were full downtown that night. And everyone seemed to enjoy it and they were crowding around many scenes such as the boy in a bunny suit holding his BB gun from the classic movie The Christmas Story.
Throughout the evening there also were free horse-drawn trolley rides through the Victorian-era downtown. From there, the community was invited to Light Up the Bluff — the lighting of the 20 foot community tree, reindeer, magical fountain and numerous holiday displays with thousands of lights in the city park overlooking Lake Michigan.
