Watch Family Health Center CEO Denise Crawford in April 22 live stream event

Denise Crawford, CEO and President of Family Health Center (FHC) announced more drive-up testing will take place Thursday, April 23, at Loy Norrix High School parking lot at 606 E. Kilgore Road, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Kalamazoo County. A second site will be at KRESA, 1819 East Milham Ave., Portage, Thursday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Her announcement took place a noon Wednesday, April 22, from the Family Health Center administration offices. There will be an opportunity for the public and press to submit questions via Facebook.com/fhckzoo and afterward for follow-up FAQs.

Crawford will share details on the volume and scope of the additional testing facilitated by Family Health Center and its care network. The drive-up testing site has a capacity to test 200-300 people each day but the public must call and pre-register for a drive-up test. The pre-registration process takes a few minutes over the phone.

It is important that any first responder, critical infrastructure employee or essential worker who interfaces with the public get tested, regardless of symptoms or lack thereof.

Family Health Center is facilitating drive-up testing site for all Kalamazoo County residents. Anyone who calls the FHC COVID-19 Testing Hotline at 269-488-0804 can schedule a Family Health Center Virtual Care Telemedicine consultation with a FHC provider to be screened and referred to the Drive-Up Test site. Sick individuals can be tested for COVID-19 without leaving their vehicles. Use of a commercial laboratory in Grand Rapids that can run upwards of 3,000 tests per day for the State is being utilized. Results are reported back to Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services and MDHHS.

Drive-up testing is made available through a partnership involving Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), Michigan Primary Care Association, community health centers like FHC, and NxGen MDX Laboratory. The efforts will increase Michigan’s daily COVID-19 Corona Virus testing capacity by approximately 40 percent when all sites are fully operational.
