Food packages providing breakfast and lunch for seven days a week throughout the summer will be available for children in the Kalamazoo Public Schools beginning July 7 and run through Aug. 13.
As part of the Kalamazoo Public Schools Summer Food Service Program, free meals will be made available to children 18 years of age and under or persons up to 26 years old who are enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled that is recognized by a state or local public educational agency.
Meals will be provided without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.
No application or proof of income is required. Parents or guardians can pick up meals without their children present. Children do not need to be accompanied by a guardian to receive meals. Meals do not need to be eaten on site.
KPS has been providing Grab-and-Go meals since March when schools were closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. KPS was aware that with the school closures many students were at risk of food insecurity.
More than one-third of KPS children live in households below the federal poverty line, and approximately 70 percent of students are eligible for free- or reduced-price lunch. The school district has provided more than 750,000 meals to students over the past three months. The Grab-and-Go program will end Friday, June 26.
The Summer Food Service Program operates in accordance with federal law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies. This institution is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, and reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.

Food will be distributed 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at all sites — except Fox Ridge and New Village, where food distribution will be 12:30-1 p.m., and Interfaith and Eastside, which will be 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
