S2 Games adds staff for mobile games development

S2 Games, creator of Heroes of Newerth, has launched a mobile gaming division. That move, continued growth in its popularity and its expanding staff have led it to relocate from its Oshtemo Township offices to a space in Portage.

S2 Games launched iGames, a wholly-owned subsidiary, Jan. 2. The games created by the new division will be designed to bridge the gap between casual players and experienced gamers.

For its move into mobile, S2 Games is looking for an assistant director of mobile games, mobile content manager, mobile game designer, mobile technical artist, mobile game UI developer, and online systems programmer.

The company that turns 10 this year more than doubled its workforce in 2012, growing to a staff of 90 employees, 49 of whom were added last year. The staff had been divided in two neighboring offices in an office park off Ninth Street. The company's art team works in Rohnert Park, Calif., where 14 were employed as of June 2012.

To bring the staff under one roof, and accommodate the new staff, S2 Games has moved into an 18,000 square-foot space, 6,000 square feet larger than its previous location. The offices at the Portage Trade Centre features a new 55-seat classroom to educate S2's employees on industry-related information, teach them job skills and explore other skills for personal growth.

S2 Game's multiplayer online battle arena game, Heroes of Newerth, pits two teams of players against each other -- the Legion and the Hellbourne -- and the company continuously adds to the number of heroes players can choose from.

"Our Heroes of Newerth player base grew by about 50 percent in 2012 and we have high expectations with the launch of HoN 3.0 in 2013," says Marc DeForest, CEO of S2 Games.
