Some 208 jobs are expected to stay in Southwest Michigan now that the Michigan Economic Growth Authority has offered a state tax credit valued at $1 million over five years to
IPC Print Service, near St. Joseph.
And, a business expansion that could boost local employment is on its way thanks to moves IPC Print Services Inc. can make as a result of receiving the tax credit.
Walsworth Publishing Vice President Ken Kozminski says when IPC Print Services was acquired by
Walsworth Publishing in December the parent company simultaneously announced it was closing facilities in Omaha, Neb., and transferring some jobs to company headquarters in Marceline, Mo.
It looked like IPC Print Service jobs could be headed out of Michigan, too, Kozminski says.
He met with Wendy Dant, Cornerstone Alliance President, and together they approached the
Michigan Economic Develop Corp. in search of a package that would prove attractive to the company's new owners and convince them to keep jobs in Michigan.
Walsworth Publishing liked the proposal MEDC developed and decided to transfer equipment from the Nebraska operation to Michigan, which will allow IPC to expand the kinds of work it is doing and bring about more jobs, Kozminski says.
IPC Print Services has agreed to invest $23.1 million in its local operation in Lincoln and St. Joseph townships. Lincoln Township is considering whether it will offer further incentives in support of the project.
IPC Print Services specializes in the complete production and distribution of magazines, journals, catalogs and books.
