What do a quaint tourist town and footwear have in common? Jenni Steele adores them both.
"I love shoes and I love Saugatuck," she says. "I thought putting the two together would be perfect."
The result of that marriage is For the Love of Shoes, Steele's Saugatuck shoe boutique, opening April 14 with Steele and one employee -- for now.
"I plan on adding," Steele says. "I'm hoping that I need to hire two more for summer."
For the Love of Shoes will open its doors with more than 150 styles of women's fashion shoes and accessories, such as mugs, key chains, umbrellas, playing cards, cell phone and laptop tattoos and artwork, all adorned with shoes.
"Our prices run from $80 to $200 and we'll have flip-flops in the $20 range," Steele says. "We cover it all. We have regular, everyday shoes, but also carry a lot of very funky, fun shoes. I have a friend that calls them 'Oh, so fabulous.'"
"We're getting things that are either on-trend or a coming trend all the time," she says. "Very fashion-forward. And you're getting a quality shoe here, too."
Steele will hold an open house with hors d'oeuvres, in conjunction with other area businesses, on May 20 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
"I hope to see everyone there," she says. "When women want a new pair of shoes, I want them to think of this place."
