Three more new homes are being offered through efforts of the Kalamazoo County Land Bank as it continues its work to create vibrant neighborhoods through the elimination of blighted properties, creation of affordable housing opportunities, and the stabilization of property values.
The latest houses to come on the market are two selling for $140,000 at 717 Willard, 721 Willard and a $56,000 home at 1702 Egleston.
The 717 Willard home has four bedrooms and 2.5 baths. This new home was constructed by American Village Builders in the historic
Stuart neighborhood. It has energy efficiency measures built in. Other features are stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, custom cabinets and hardwood floors and custom made wood trim throughout.
At 721 Willard, also built by American Village Builders in the Stuart neighborhood on one of the largest lots in the neighborhood. It has three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Like its neighbor it features granite countertops, hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, custom trim package, covered porches on front and rear deck. The full basement provides an egress window allowing for an additional bedroom and a sizeable family room.
The third property at 1702 Egleston has three bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor. Washer, dryer, stove, refrigerator and window treatments included.
Altogether, 22 homes have been put on the market through
Kalamazoo Homeownership Opportunities Program and nine have been sold. The houses go up after the Kalamazoo Land Bank buys foreclosed homes in target areas, and the City of Kalamazoo finds professional contractors to do the work.
Homebuyers with moderate-level incomes can qualify to purchase the homes. For example, in Kalamazoo a family of four can earn as much as $75,840 per year and qualify for a KHOP home. Local realtors handle the sale of the homes.
