New beauty salon offers weaves, braids and more

Learning the business is what T’quincy Williams likes best about owning a beauty salon of her own in Benton Harbor.

Divine Creations Hair Salon and Body Works is located at 1682 Berrien Ave. Williams has a team of three stylists who work with her, though they are not employees. Karen Coleman, Althea "Candy" Gaddy, Nakia Yates and Aubree Coleman are seasoned stylists, Williams says. They can offer weaves, sew-ons, perms, curl, haircuts, hairstyles and braids.

Williams also is seeking a nail technician and a massage therapist. Hair products also will soon be for sale there.

Before she could get funding for the shop, she was asked to contact the Women’s Business Center at Cornerstone Alliance to complete a business plan. The staff there helped her put together the plan and complete the legal steps needed to establish the business.

Divine Creations Hair Salon and Body Works officially opened on Dec.10. Its hours are. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

"I have a good sense for business," Williams says, "and because there are many salons in the Benton Harbor area, I have a challenge to be different while providing excellent customer service.”
