Supporters of economic development and education in the Benton Harbor and St. Joseph area have a new way to demonstrate their backing.
Lake Michigan College and Cornerstone Alliance are working together on a campaign to raise funds that will provide scholarship and educational opportunities for the area. The campaign also will support local economic development efforts by Cornerstone Alliance.
The two organizations behind the fundraising effort hope to raise $1 million.
Through the Champions for Change Bridge Fundraising Campaign donors will be able to purchase a $250 plaque that will be displayed on the bridge that connects hole 2 and hole 3 on the The Golf Club at Harbor Shores and Jean Klock Park walking trails.
The bridge crosses the Paw Paw River and will be used by golfers and pedestrians. The bridge connects St. Joseph on the west side of the Paw Paw River and Benton Harbor on the east side of the river.
And while that could be viewed symbolically, the bridge was chosen for the fundraising project in part because many people will use it and it will offer high exposure to those who donate to the effort, says Katie Veine director of investor relations for Cornerstone Alliance.
