V.I.P. Beauty and Barber moves to downtown Benton Harbor

Lotisa Torres started styling hair when her son was 2 years old. Now he's 23. It was the determination to create a job that allowed her the flexibility she needed as a working mother that encouraged her to move from banking to the beauty salon all those years ago.

 

She's been a business owner since 2002. And now Torres has taken another step by relocating her business, V.I.P. Beauty and Barber, from 1615 Mall Drive in Benton Township to 890 E. Main Street in Benton Harbor. 

 

When her landlord in Benton Township announced the property was for sale she decided to seek another location. Torres says she looked at a lot of properties before settling on the site downtown. She liked it because she once had worked there, was familiar with the property, and it was "like coming home."

 

The new location, at about 1,500 square feet, is smaller than her previous location, which she says had space going unused. 

 

At V.I.P. Beauty and Barber Torres has two stylists and two barbers, all contract employees. V.I.P.’s hair stylist, nail technicians and barbers are trained to assist a diverse clientele. Services include quick weaves, sew-ons, perms, curl, haircuts, hairstyles, and braids.  

 

Hair products are available for men and women.

 

Torres says the best thing about being a business owner is its flexibility and providing "excellent customer service, networking and doing it my way.  The key to success is customer satisfaction."  

 

"I have great stylists and barbers and without them this would not be possible," Torres says.
