Beach bus shuttles sun worshipers around South Haven

This summer, getting from downtown South Haven to the beach is just a phone call away.

Beginning July 1, the Beach Bus started to roll through South Haven, thanks to Van Buren Public Transit. The bus travels to and from the beaches, downtown and to the marina. North Beach and South Beach are both on the route, as is the municipal Northside Marina.

Rides begin and end at clearly marked drop off points. Those wishing to ride the Beach Bus may simply call the Van Buren Transit at 269-427-7921.

Riders pay 50 cents.

The service has been a hit says South Haven City Manager Brian Dissette. The bus is intended to not only help visitors and residents reach their destinations, but also provide a boost to local businesses by making it easier for beach-goers to get downtown.

The partnership with the county transit service means the city "can offer a new level of customer service where everyone benefits," Dissette says.

South Haven, a city of 5,000, sees its population explode each summer as tourists come to check out the beaches and stay for the sunsets.
