Tucker's of Northport might contain a bowling alley, but don't let that deceive you into thinking the food is below par.
The family entertainment center and restaurant in Northport is ramping up to open at the end of May, and part of that preparation is adding new executive chef Patrick Karpowski to the staff.
Karpowski is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, and was the youngest certified executive chef at Sheraton Hotel and Towers in Chicago.
He says his new menu at Tucker's has an "upscale casual" feel, with chef-created dishes like fresh Thai rolls, ribs smoked in-house, and house-made pastrami.
"I like to take a look at the clientele we'll be serving to start with, and then compound flavors into the dishes," Karpowski says.
In a foodie haven like northwest Michigan, it should be a welcome relief to find a place you can take your young kids and still enjoy top-of-the-line cuisine.
"Our focus and our food is going to be fresh with creative presentation and local products," says Karpowski, who says he is aiming to stand out from other local restaurants in that regard.
Tucker's has been adding on staff over the last several weeks, aiming for an end-of-May opening. In all, about 50 people will be employed there. Besides the bowling alley, other entertainment offered will be arcade games and live music.
