Placemaking on the Leelanau Peninsula is getting a boost with a recent small grant in Suttons Bay.
The
Village of Suttons Bay got a $2,500 grant from the National Association of Realtors, matched by a $500 grant from the Traverse Area Association of Realtors. The funding comes from a new placemaking micro grant program from the NAR, designed to help small, quick placemaking projects take place in local communities with the help of local realtor associations.
The money will go to renovating the village's red telephone booth--yes, like the British kind--at the intersection of First and Cedar streets and the Leelanau Trail. Wayfinding signage also will be added to the intersection, as well as a meeting and staging area for the community.
