Springfield Commercial Roofing proved recently that they are more than just a company that comes and fixes your roof. The company, based outside of Manistee, was awarded a patent for its new SmartShield product--an energy-efficient method of mechanical insulation that is becoming quite the hit locally.
Springfield's system, which they have been installing on local fruit and food-processing facilities for a couple of years under the patent-pending status, is installed on the inside and outside of the facilities on pipes and ducts. The system protects the facilities from a breach in the traditional methods of insulation that could become compromised, ending with catastrophic effects like those that have occurred and led to salmonella poisoning.
"We are excited that the patent has been issued," says Terry Umlor, president and CEO of Springfield. "Our team at Springfield continues to work hard toward developing and implementing solutions for our commercial clients. The idea for this system came about after years of working on rooftops of large facilities in the area where we noticed that rust, mold and ice were compromising the integrity of the current insulating systems."
This newly patented system is energy efficient and will save customers money on their energy and maintenance costs, will keep facilities in strict compliance with FDA and OSHA guidelines, and will eliminate the need to replace the system every 5-7 years (as is typical with the current insulating systems).
