Porterhouse Productions launches new event venue

Northern Michigan will soon have a new way to host bigger and better events with the addition of a large new mobile event venue from Porterhouse Productions in Traverse City.

It's called Spectacular Structures and will be a high-capacity, four-season mobile entertainment venue--like a movable arena or convention center. Sounds perfect for the beautiful settings of northern Michigan; who wouldn't rather look out at Grand Traverse Bay than a busy city street while at a concert or conference?

Basically, it's a high-tech, sophisticated tent structure that's also highly customizable for a wide range of events--and it's actually the first of its kind in the U.S., says Porterhouse Productions owner Sam Porter.

"Whether it's local symphonies looking to play in an outdoor covered venue, chambers of commerce planning business expos, wedding planners looking for a unique event setting or national touring artists booking high-capacity stages in Michigan, this venue will allow us to cater to every single one of those demographics," says Porter.

The mobile venue can be heated or cooled, enclosed or opened, and scaled in size. It's transported by semi-trailer and includes an independent refrigeration unit for local food and beverage service.

It's backed by investment from Grand Rapids-based venture capital firm Start Garden, and will make its first appearances this weekend in Traverse City at Paella in the Park on August 16 and the Great Wakes festival August 17. While Porterhouse will use it for the concerts and festivals it produces, Spectacular Structures will also be its own business, for rent by outside customers or communities.

Eventually, Porter hopes to expand the capacity up to 10,000 guests and past that, take the brand to the national level.
